Rick Owens

Rick is the owner and main instructor. He was certified in 1987 at Catalina Island and immediately fell in love with the sport. He became a PADI instructor in July 1991 and has literally trained thousands of divers, including many instructors and store owners that are operating locally and throughout the world.

Rick opened Scottsdale Scuba in 1991 and learned the SCUBA industry from the ground up. He has a wide range of knowledge in every area of the sport!

He believes that learning to SCUBA should be fun and he creates a laid back, fun and positive environment in which to learn!

Rick believes that the number one priority of a SCUBA store should be customer service. Because of this belief, he tells his customers that he prefers not to be called a SCUBA store, but rather a SCUBA instructor that sells equipment, runs trips and services all brands of equipment!

Joe Garza

Joe is our right hand man. He does everything from providing students with his SCUBA expertise to fixing the company van when things aren't going right.

Joe is a former Marine, although they say "once a marine, always a marine". So, I am not really sure if " former " fits.

He has been diving for many years.  As a child Joe helped his father doing underwater welding on boat repairs in Chicago.  His experience is far beyond his years.

In case any of you need a realiable pool repairman, Joe is an expert in that field as well!

Wally Macholtz

Wally was PADI certified in 1977 while living on Maui in Hawaii and met Rick in 1991 right after he opened his Scottsdale Scuba store.  Rick certified Wally as a PADI dive master in 1995 and he has been helping out ever since with beginning through advanced students.
Wally has been diving in the Pacific, Caribbean, the Sea of Cortez, several lakes, and even the Colorado River.  He enjoys helping new and certified divers find the joy in experiencing new adventures in God's underwater world.  I hope to see you all under water soon!
